It was designed by Alfred Foulhoux,  but is often mistakenly credited as the work of Gustave Eiffel or a collaboration between Foulhoux and Auguste Henri Vildieu, based in Hanoi. As the historian Tim Doling, of the Architecte constructteur magazine: Revue du monde architectural et artistique of September 15, 1891, commented: “The inauguration of the new Saigon Post Office, which took place on July 14, was postponed until the Governor returned. General. This monument, adorned with a most artistic facade, is extremely well arranged and well equipped for the different services to which it is intended; gives the highest honor for the skill and talent of the distinguished Chief Architect of the colony, M. Foulhoux.
